PDUs - Professional Development Units

What are PDUs?

Simply put, Professional Development Units (PDUs) are a measurement of your ongoing development within the profession. In an ever-evolving environment, it is critical that professional skills are honed, developed and expanded upon.    

PMI presents its members a variety of opprtunities to actively participate in industry, whilst earning PDUs toward maintaining certification. Members are encouraged to explore the PDUs opportunities availabe, and regulary review their PDU status.

How do I earn PDUs?

PDUs are broadly classified in two different categories: Continued Learning and Giving Back to the Profession.  Our certifications require members to obtain a number of PDUs per 3-year cycle.  Different certifications have different PDU requirements.  To view the PDU requirements of your specific certification, you can get more information here.

CONTINUED LEARNING

Within the category of project education, members can earn PDUs based on formal and informal learning.. 

Learning opportunities include:

  • Attending formal contact sessions
  • Attending webinars, seminars, conferences and events
  • Guided and self-driven online study 
  • Reading, research and self-study
  • Attending live, virtual and on-demand events
  • Attending local chapter meetings

GIVING BACK TO THE PROFESSION

Members can also earn PDUs by actively participating in giving back to the profession

Giving back opportunities include:

  • Formal mentoring and coaching; 
  • Volunteering
  • Developing the PM knowledge base
  • Working as a practitioner
  • Preparing for and giving a presentation
  • Sharing knowledge
