Newsletter from the President - 2023 July
Dear PMI Community,
Greetings to all our members.
It’s a great pleasure for me to take this platform as an opportunity to reach out to all of you in my maiden newsletter. I will be sharing with you some chapter updates on our achievements and activities in the foreseeable future which, no doubt, some would already know for their proximity to them and active participation in the Chapter events. So pardon me as its not to bore you but to ensure inclusivity.
This is my second year since election as Chapter President, a term which will come to an end in Q3.2024, though I was in an acting position a year before then as I took over from Dr Lynn Keeys who is now on the PMI Board.
PM Summit 2023
Our flagship event, the PM Summit, was held on 20th April at CSIR-ICC and has proven to be quite a success with over 200 delegates in attendance. We had both virtual and in-person delegates which made this our first hybrid event of this scale as a chapter.
The theme of it was África: The New Frontier for Emerging Tech. We intend to bring better value with the next one as the planning has commenced whilst closing out this one
.
PMI SA Chapter Goals for 2023
My 2023 goals for the Chapter, among others, are the following;
- Better Corporate engagement,
- a visible improvement in our way of working with our Cluster Engagement (CE) processes taking root and
- a better focus on youth development.
Cluster Launch updates
On CE, we have launched 2 clusters to date. These are Secunda & East London. We have another 4 lined up for launch soon. These would be PE, George, Rustenburg & Vaal.
We now have a Chapter Youth Ambassador who is leading a Rising Leader campaign targeted at youths in high schools, universities and our young graduates who need to experience the project management world as a career path.
Cluster Launch updates
Our Corporate Outreach team has been engaging with various organisations in different sectors in the last 18months bringing them PMI value to improve their offering with great success.
We are proud to inform you that PMI now has a collaborative arrangement and signed an MOA with South African Council for the Projects and Construction Project Management Professions (SACPCMP). SACPCMP is the government’s regulatory body in Construction Project Management presenting exciting opportunities for our members in the Construction sector. We will be exploring similar partnerships with relevant organs of state, professional bodies and voluntary associations to bring you more value in the near future.
Events
Our monthly webinars continue as well as our ATP – PMP – CAPM information sessions.
We also have monthly Chapter Xchange events.
Look out for these on our websites and social media platforms.
Communication Channels
The Chapter now has a What’s App group for all its members. Currently, there are over 500 of us in this one-directional communication community platform. We encourage you to join to keep abreast of events and updates in the Chapter by joining if you have not yet. The group invite is https://chat.whatsapp.com/HVYDrJVzs4DLKWw5c6YEDp
International Events
In September, Nairobi will be hosting the 2023 PMI Africa Conference. Check our website for details.
In Conclusion
In my next newsletter, I will be sharing with you more updates on other portfolio activities of the Chapter.
Keep the PM Community thriving as an Ecosystem of Change Makers.!!
Be the Ripple – Embrace Curiosity – Together We Can!!!
Cheers.
Tunde Ojo-Aromokudu, PMP.
