Eligibility Criteria for Executive Positions (2024-2027 Term):

  • It is desirable that candidates have achieved professional status (PMP preferred).
  • Young project management professionals are encouraged to apply.
  • Membership in good standing of both PMI and PMI South Africa Chapter is mandatory.
  • All volunteers and nominees must abide by PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
  • Project, program, and portfolio management experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of PMI/Chapter activities and functioning is recommended.
  • Leadership and/or management experience is recommended.
  • Planning knowledge and experience is recommended.

Board Member (Director)

Requirements:

  • Professional Status: Must have professional status (PMP desirable) and be eligible for registration as a director in South Africa.
  • Membership: While not required at the nomination stage, membership in both PMI and PMI South Africa Chapter is necessary to serve as a Director.
  • Ethics: Adherence to PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is mandatory.

 Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience as an active director.
  • Experience in project, program, or portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of PMI activities and functioning, executive leadership, strategic planning, board/governance, senior management, and financial literacy.
  • Participation in the Chapter's Director Development Program is preferred.

Diversity:

  • The Board strives to reflect the diversity of the South African marketplace in terms of gender, culture, geographical location, and stakeholder groups.
  • Nominations should aim to represent this diversity as much as possible.

Competencies:

  • Finance and Audit: Understanding of financial matters and auditing processes.
  • Director's Training: Completion of director training programs is beneficial.

CEO/President

About the Role:

The elected volunteer will be responsible for overseeing the Chapter and the Board. The President shall direct the activities of other Board members in accordance with the Chapter bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Direct the Chapter's strategic goals, achieve the Chapter's vision, mission, and objectives, and ensure the Board works together as a team.
  • Representation: Represent the Chapter at public events and act as a liaison between the Chapter and PMI.
  • Governance: Ensure the Chapter's charter renewal, legal and ethical compliance, and adherence to PMI policies and guidelines.
  • Operations: Preside over Board meetings, oversee Chapter business, and ensure prudent disbursement of Chapter funds.
  • Leadership Development: Promote leadership development opportunities for Board members.
  • Succession Planning: Develop and implement a succession and transition plan.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic and Business Management: Demonstrate strong leadership, management, organizational, and PMI knowledge.

Senior VP – Operations and Partnerships

About the Role:

The elected volunteer will serve as the successor to the President and assist the President with managing the Chapter. In the President's absence, this SVP will assume the role of Chapter President. The SVP will also develop and implement a succession and transition plan and may assume the role of President the following year.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead VPs and their Portfolios, ensuring alignment with chapter strategic goals and fostering unity.
  • Support: Support Chapter initiatives and advise the President on Portfolio needs.
  • Representation: Represent the President at events when necessary.
  • Collaboration: Meet with the President monthly to strategize and discuss Portfolios.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other assignments deemed necessary by the President for the efficient running of the Chapter.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic and Business Management: Demonstrate volunteer recognition, budget management, financial planning, PMI knowledge, and resource management skills.

VP Finance

About the Role:

The elected volunteer is responsible for managing the finance portfolio and ensuring that all financial records are maintained and presented in accordance with chapter bylaws.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and maintain financial records of all PMI South Africa Chapter funds.
  • Develop an annual operating budget.
  • Prepare financial reports on the Chapter's activities and financial status.
  • Manage financial arrangements for meetings and events.
  • Ensure compliance with South African regulations.
  • Support a smooth transition of financial records to the successor.
  • Provide input into Chapter governance documents.

Assist with the PMF Scorecard.

  • Deputy Training: Identify and train a deputy to assist with portfolio responsibilities and ensure succession planning.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Leadership: Decision making, technical tools skills, time management, strategic planning, and process execution.
  • Strategic and Business Management: Accounting software/tools knowledge, financial planning, analytical thinking, GAAP knowledge, collaborative arrangements planning, and documentation skills.

VP Communications and Technology

About the Role:

This executive position is responsible for managing all chapter internal and external communications.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Communication Strategy: Establish a chapter communication strategy, annual plan, budget, and schedule.
  • Newsletter: Establish and run a regular chapter newsletter.
  • Event Announcements: Manage regular announcements of chapter events.
  • Communication Review: Review current chapter communications for effectiveness and member engagement. Manage communication and documentation flow and filing/storage.
  • Website Management: Manage the chapter website, contribute to website content, provide data analytics, and respond to technical support requests.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the VP Marketing, marketing team, and portfolio leaders.
  • Digital Solutions: Provide advice and lead the application of digital solutions for chapter communications and events to improve effectiveness, impact, and brand exposure.
  • Team Management: Develop and manage a team of volunteers to carry out portfolio responsibilities with support from the VP Volunteer Management.

VP ATP Outreach

About the Role:

The elected volunteer will be responsible for coordinating the activities of Authorized Training Partners (ATPs) within the Chapter and working with other PMI Chapter Leaders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • ATP Coordination: Coordinate the work of ATPs in the Chapter with respect to PMI activities.
  • Engagement: Advise and engage ATPs on Chapter activities, seeking buy-in and promoting opportunities for profit-sharing.
  • MOU Compliance: Ensure ATPs fully meet their obligations under signed MOUs.
  • Global Collaboration: Work strategically with ATPs globally that are of interest to the Chapter.
  • ATP Coordinator Coordination: Coordinate the activities of Chapter ATP Coordinators.
  • DVP ATP Outreach Support: Support the DVP ATP Outreach with all aspects of PMI Engagement and duties.
  • Presidential Representation: Receive instructions and advice from the President of the Chapter and represent the President at PMI activities and events nationally, regionally, and internationally.
  • ATP Coordination: Coordinate the activities of Chapter ATPs in the Chapter, Region, and beyond. Coordinate Chapter DVP & ATP Coordinators.
  • Program Development: Work with ATPs to develop program content for webinars, symposia, events, talks, boot camps, and meetings.
  • Advice: Advise the President of the Chapter on areas to improve ATP/Chapter/PMI relations.

The elected or appointed volunteer will operate under the direction of the President and Executive Committee and serve as a liaison with companies, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies & departments to promote project management and raise awareness of the PMI South Africa Chapter.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a Plan: Develop a plan that addresses chapter objectives, maintains contacts with relevant entities, and oversees a team of volunteers to carry out the work.
  • Represent the Chapter: Make representations to companies, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies to develop opportunities for sustainable collaborative partnerships that encourage chapter membership and mutually benefit chapter members and entities.

VP Early Career Professionals

About the Role:

The Vice President - Early Career Professionals is responsible for growing the student club portfolio in South Africa. This includes developing and implementing a business development strategy, building relationships with university and corporate clients, and providing support to student clubs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Business Development: Develop and implement a business development strategy to identify new markets, develop sales plans, and manage the sales process.
  • Relationship Building: Build relationships with university and corporate clients to promote the PMI brand and products/services, and identify potential partnership opportunities.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to develop and deliver strategies for increasing membership, engagement, training, and development programs for student club leaders and volunteers.
  • Alignment: Ensure alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.

Senior VP – Rising Leaders

About the Role:

The elected volunteer will form part of and report to the President. The SVP Rising Leaders will play a supporting role by assisting leaders (VPs) to overcome challenges and unpack policies for presidential alignment. The SVP - Rising Leaders will support the following portfolios:

Responsibilities:

Awareness:

  • Provide information, guidance, and recommendations to VPs and members to enhance effectiveness and value delivered to the audience and chapter.

  • Promote awareness of the chapter, PMI, GAC, project management profession, chapter support benefits, group student membership, and relevant PMI products/programs/initiatives

  • Engage university students through innovative programs like PMI chapter student clubs, mentorship, case competitions, and networking.

VP Cluster Engagements

About the Role:

The VP of Cluster Engagement is an elected volunteer responsible for leading the Cluster Engagement Portfolio. This role reports directly to the President of the PMI South Africa Chapter.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Organizational Structure: Develop the organizational structure for the Cluster Engagement portfolio in collaboration with the Chapter President and other leadership.
  • Volunteer Management: Manage all aspects of volunteer recruitment, appointment, and management for the Cluster Engagement Portfolio.
  • Financial Management: Handle budgeting, reporting, expense approval, and tracking for the portfolio.
  • Management Reporting and Communications: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
  • Program Initiatives: Initiate, support, and promote programs to grow membership participation in the Cluster Engagement program.
  • Program Implementation: Complete the rollout and implementation of the Cluster Engagement Program solution design.
  • Membership Growth: Promote and grow participation in the program through communication, marketing, and engagement initiatives.

  • Communications: Provide communication list/member updates to officers as requested and coordinate the production and distribution of timely membership reports.
