2023 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND SKILLS EXPANSION
In 2023, PMI South Africa placed a strong emphasis on youth empowerment and professional development, positioning the next generation at the centre of the chapter’s growth strategy.
- Appointment of its first Youth Ambassador, Ayanda Nyikana, strengthening youth representation and leadership
- Becoming the first PMI chapter in Africa to establish Student Clubs, expanding grassroots engagement

The chapter expanded its footprint through strategic partnerships with leading organisations such as Exxaro, Absa, WBHO, and Oracle, supporting the advancement of project management capabilities within corporate environments and contributing to organisational performance.

2024 STRENGTHENED CERTIFICATION INFORMATION SESSIONS ECOSYSTEM
In addition, the chapter reinforced its collaboration with Authorised Training Providers (ATPs), enhancing the delivery of structured Certification Information Sessions across the country. These sessions improved awareness, accessibility, and understanding of PMI certification pathways among students, early career professionals, and corporate partners.

In 2025, PMI South Africa successfully introduced its first-ever 2-day Project Management Summit, marking a significant milestone in positioning the chapter at the forefront of the profession in South Africa.
The Summit was designed to elevate the chapter’s influence by bringing together high-calibre thought leaders, industry experts, and practitioners to share insights, drive conversations, and shape the future of project management in the region.
- Participation of 52 speakers, representing a diverse range of industries and expertise
- Inclusion of prominent South African leaders such as Dr Mteto Nyati and Professor Bonang, contributing to high-level discussions on leadership, transformation, and innovation
- Strong support from sponsors, including: Zutari, PM Ideas, Tshepa Basadi, Dwalalam, Rand Water (Double Platinum Sponsor)

A key highlight was the launch of the Ubuntu Thought Leadership Series — a real-life, interactive platform designed to bring professionals together for authentic dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving. These sessions created a space for meaningful conversations grounded in African values, leadership, and practical application within the project economy.
- Significant increase in in-person engagements across multiple regions
- Launch of the Ubuntu Thought Leadership Series, fostering deeper industry and community interaction
