The event began with a warm welcome from Shariffa Miller, Senior Vice President of PMO, who set an enthusiastic tone for a day focused on collaboration, growth, and new opportunities within the project management profession.

Reginald Mazana, Chairman of the PMI South Africa Board, highlighted the organization's evolving governance structure. He emphasized their decentralized model that empowers regional chapters like KZN to lead their initiatives while maintaining alignment with global standards. Mazana spoke about the unique opportunity for KZN to establish itself as a dynamic, event-driven chapter that brings local relevance to global project management practices.

Regional Vision and Global Connections

Representing PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, Phumza Dyani painted an inspiring picture of KZN's potential. She celebrated the region's cultural richness while emphasizing the importance of integrating local strengths with global PMI initiatives. Dyani encouraged members to leverage international partnerships—including collaborations with NASA and local ICT firms—for knowledge sharing, innovation, and impactful projects.

Strategic Direction and Leadership

Chapter President Ayanda Nyikana delivered a compelling presentation outlining PMI's global and local footprint, highlighting the rapidly growing demand for skilled project managers. She emphasized the importance of youth engagement and the collaborative role of the government and private sector in strengthening the profession.

Nyikana provided a comprehensive overview of the KZN branch leadership structure, upcoming events, and the diverse benefits of membership, including certifications, networking opportunities, and access to valuable resources. Her message resonated clearly: the KZN Branch is not just a new chapter but a new movement in the region's project management landscape.

Leadership Opportunities

The newly appointed KZN Branch Leaders—Phathiswa Fotoyi, Sakhiwo Nkezi, and Noxolo Mkhize—were introduced to attendees. Nyikana also highlighted current leadership vacancies, extending an open invitation to professionals, students, and stakeholders to actively shape the future of the branch.

Interactive Community Building

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session where attendees posed thoughtful questions addressed by both President Ayanda Nyikana and Immediate Past President Tunde Ojo-Aromokudo, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose among participants.

National Initiatives Supporting Regional Growth

Attendees were also introduced to several ongoing national initiatives:

  • Mentorship Program: Connecting emerging project professionals with seasoned mentors to foster growth and development
  • Student Clubs: Providing students with practical exposure, networking opportunities, and access to PMI resources to prepare them for successful careers
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with institutions like STADIO, SACPCMP, and local enterprises, driving excellence and awareness of project management across sectors
